THE ART OF WEAVING

We approached the loom for the first time in 1984, out of personal interest: we loved this world, and we went deeper into it with different master craftsmen, researching and working on individual and collective projects until, in 2004, we founded Belategui Regueiro, making this art a way of life that we are passionate about and in which we have poured all our illusions.

Belategui is the second surname of Oscar's mother (she has at least seven more of that style) and Regueiro is the second surname of Luisa's mother (who also has seven more of hers).

As you can see, our brand is a direct tribute to our mothers and to the surnames that are lost because they do not appear in the documents, but that we carry with us and are part of our essence, because they are in who we are, and it is also a way of vindicating the role of women.

What do we do?

We are dedicated to creating garments, fashion accessories and decoration made with fabrics that we weave on wooden looms, because, yes: we weave as it was always done, with our hands, and we use the fibers that have always been used in Galicia: wool and linen... but also all those materials that we can find, some more conventional than others: silk, alpaca, bamboo, neoprene, paper, cotton, rubber...

We like challenges (put us to the test!) that is why we dedicate special attention to research to incorporate into the textile creation process those materials in fusion with others more commonly used and thus achieve contemporary textures and finishes providing solutions that we integrate into our designs adapting to the new times without losing our essence.

HANDCRAFTED TECHNIQUE, CONTEMPORARY IDEAS

Some of the garments we weave are dyed with natural dyes, such as indigo, using different techniques. We do botanical printing (ecoprint) with leaves of plants and trees, and flowers that we collect from our environment (which is rural, wild, bucolic and pastoral) something that was used in all civilizations to color or print (or both) their fabrics.

We also use photographic techniques from the 19th century to print on our canvases shapes that are in nature or that occur to us and that are part of our creative process.

Live parts and to live them

Our way of seeing life and working keeps us in a constant search to create useful, comfortable, versatile, timeless and innovative designs for people who look for quality and unique and non-serialized products. People who like to know who, where, and how they make the pieces they wear.

Dissemination and outreach

One of our objectives is the dissemination of this art by participating in various events: exhibitions and congresses and giving classes and demonstrations in different areas: rural women, educational centers, fashion schools...
